The United Kingdom of Great Britain has added many glorious feathers in its cap, and the number is still counting. The powers that dominated the whole region were unarguably the greatest of all time. The British Empire was one of them, and at its height, it was the largest empire in history. By 1922, the British controlled more than 458 million people worldwide and covered 13,012,000 square miles area of Earth. But in spite of these tremendous achievements, the UK powers are held responsible for some of the worst and inglorious disasters that have afflicted humanity. Our writers who offer assignment help UK have covered some of those events. If you want to know about them, then read this blog.

1.) Industrial Revolution

The well-known Industrial Revolution began in England, a country of the UK during the 1780s, and started to spread in Europe and other countries of the world after 1815. It strongly transformed the canvas of the human societies. It modified the patterns of work, changed the structure of the social class, and altered the political and military powers. On the one hand, the Industrial Revolution helped the ordinary people improve the standard of living, but, on the other hand it brought devastating experiences to much of the world. Industrialists became very rich during the revolution, while workers were under soul-crushing poverty. Cities grew in uncontrollable manner around factories rapidly and without proper town-planning. They lacked basic amenities, such as sufficient sewage, running water, or sanitation systems. Settlements were overcrowded and filthy. Factory owners hired women and children as they were ready to work for peanuts.

2.) Palestine Issue

After a marvelous victory over the Ottoman Empire in WWI,  instead of liberating their Arab allies, Great Britain colonized them. The UK powers got Palestine, Jordan, and Iraq. After the war, Jews started migrating in large numbers to their native place of Palestine. Many officials of the UK powers desired to create a Jewish homeland in the Middle East zone in order to throw the Jews out of Europe altogether. In 1947, Great Britain announced their withdrawal from Palestine, and in November 1947, the United Nations General Assembly proposed the partition of Palestine into two separate states—Jewish and Arab. The Jews accepted the proposal, but the Arabs rejected the partition. On May 14, 1948, Great Britain officially quit without providing any resolution to the situation and the same day the Jews community proclaimed the state of Israel. Arab allies immediately pounced on the new Jewish state, but the Israelis outwarred them and conquered more territories.

3.) India-Pakistan Conflict

After 200+ years of colonialism, the British government agreed to give independence to India. But, there were conflicts between the Hindu and Muslim nationalists that led to murderous events in 1946. When it became clear that the Muslims were seeking nothing less than an independent country called Pakistan, the last viceroy of India, Lord Louis Mountbatten, proposed a plan of partition. Both sides agreed on it, and on August 14, 1947, Pakistan got independence. But, the cost of freedom was paid by both the countries as it brought tragedy. Later on, communal massacres and mass expulsions broke out. Millions of people were slaughtered, and roughly five million made refugees. The governments of both sides were completely powerless to stop the violence. About this much-sought independence, Mahatma Gandhi exclaimed: “What is there to celebrate?”

4.) The Great Irish Famine

In 1845, the Great Famine, also called Irish Potato Famine, or Famine of 1845-49, occurred in Ireland when blight hit the potato crop and devastated it in successive years. This disease destroyed both leaves and tubers of the potato plants. The water mold called ‘Phytophthora infestans' was the causative agent of the light. Great Britain's government is still blamed for their inadequate efforts to relieve the famine. As a result of which, more than 750,000 Irish died, and nearly two million left their hometowns for Canada, Great Britain, and the United States.

No matter what your past is, your one good deed is enough to make you a hero. And, the UK is the best example of it. Hope you liked reading the blog.
